In 2019 I had the pleasure of portraying Colombian painter Carolina Sanabrias in her studio. Photographing an artist in their own creative space always adds another dimension – the environment becomes part of the portrait, the works themselves a backdrop, and the process a silent collaborator.
With Carolina, we combined classic portraiture with glimpses of her technique and paintings. The result was not only a series of images of her as a person, but also a reflection of her artistic world.
These portraits became a kind of creative home branding: authentic, personal, and inseparable from her art. A reminder that the best portraits often show both the individual and the context that inspires them.
